Cleveland has been a busy place. Celebrating the 2016 NBA Champions ( the Cleveland Cavaliers ), hosting the Cleveland Cavaliers parade and countless celebrations throughout downtown. Then the Republican National Convention rolled in and the city once again did a wonderful job hosting this big event. People all over the world tuned in and watched as Cleveland was on the world stage. There are now film crews in Cleveland filming a new movie which we are not privileged to know the title at this time, and, the Cleveland Indians are taking charge in the MLB World Series. Lots of excitement, lots of fun.
We have been excited as many of you are for all the good things that have happened to the city of Cleveland. It has been historic. For many years if not decades, Cleveland has been a less than desirable place to come for a visit not to mention live in. People were leaving and finding better opportunities elsewhere. The population of Cleveland has been on a steady decline since 1990. Cleveland for a while has been dubbed, "The Mistake on the Lake". Back in the 1960's with all the unregulated industry and pollution, trash, and hazardous waste were routinely dumped into the Cuyahoga River. The river would catch on fire many times. But one time in 1969 the river caught on fire and it made national news. Of course, this news instantly became a prime source of material for many comedians. Very soon after all the jokes and news stories, the EPA ( Environmental Protection Agency ) was formed. Laws have been passed to curb or end this unregulated dumping of waste in the Cuyahoga River and across the United States. The EPA became the agency to enforce these new laws. The concern for clean water and human health led the government to create an agency to protect our water, land and it's people. Although we may not be proud of how it came about, Cleveland, had a hand in getting things done to help improve the quality of life for all Americans. The Cuyahoga River today is a vibrant waterway. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a great place to visit. Bald Eagles are routinely seen along the Cuyahoga River. Yes, Cleveland and NE Ohio have been on the rebound and is becoming a great place to visit and even stay.
